Survivor says joyful outlook helped her through difficult journey
The day Cassundra Mayo discovered a lump in her left breast; it did not even cross her mind that it could be cancer.
“I was lying across my bed talking to my sister on the phone and said ‘Oh, there’s a little knot right there. Hmm, better get that checked out,’” said Mayo, who works in meter services at Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) in Shreveport.
SWEPCO recently presented Texarkana Aluminum with a $94,987.74 incentive check for an energy efficient lighting project at its aluminum mill in Texarkana, Texas.
The mill now boasts more LEDs (light-emitting diodes) with the goal eventually to have all LED lighting. LEDs have longer lifespans and lower maintenance costs compared to the mill’s previous and existing metal halide and T5 fluorescent lighting.
Crews are storm hardening the power grid to better withstand harsh weather. They’re also trimming more trees away from power lines after more than 70 inches of rainfall between last September and June spurred vegetation growth.
Watch as Distribution System Inspector Sr. Philip Johnson details these and other ongoing projects in East Texas.
Hybrid water heaters have heat pump technology to transfer heat from the surrounding air to the water in its tank. This process uses less energy than generating heat, saving you money! Learn more about the benefits of hybrid water heaters and other efficient appliances at SWEPCO.com/Appliances.
