The St. Jude Dream Home is seeing green in more ways than one

As in previous years, SWEPCO is a proud sponsor of the 2019 KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway that raises funds for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to treat young patients with catastrophic diseases. St. Jude, where no family ever receives a bill for their child’s care, has provided its services to our SWEPCO employees, families and friends.

Construction taking place at the 2019 KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home in Benton, Louisiana, where onlookers can see the green, energy-efficient ZIP System™.

This year, SWEPCO’s Energy Efficiency Team wants to take the partnership one step further by looking at how the home can be constructed for maximum energy efficiency, starting with what’s in the walls. The home, which is under construction in the Kingston Plantation neighborhood in Benton, Louisiana, boasts bright green, ZIP System™ Roof and Wall Sheathing. It’s a one-of-a-kind system made up of plywood and tape that together, create an energy efficient barrier for improved comfort and savings. Plus, it eliminates the need for traditional house wrap.

ZIP System prevents unwanted air leakage, so hot air can’t get in during the summer and warm air can’t escape during the winter. You can see how the tape covers the areas where air is likely to escape, the areas where the plywood sheathing comes together. The sheathing also adds an insulating layer to further improve the home’s interior comfort. It helps keep the hot air out during the summer and the warm air in during the winter. The future homeowners can look forward to lower SWEPCO bills, even during extreme weather days.
