Check your insulation to Rule Your Attic! Here’s how.

ENERGY STAR and SWEPCO want you to learn how to take action today and Rule Your Attic!

Nine out of 10 homes in the U.S. are under insulated, according to ENERGY STAR. Under-insulated attics in particular waste homeowners’ money through high energy bills.

ENERGY STAR and SWEPCO don’t want you to be one of those homeowners. It’s time to “Rule Your Attic!” We’ve got the resources to help you check your insulation levels to see if there’s an opportunity to make your home more energy efficient, saving you electricity and money.

Poor insulation causes a home’s HVAC system to run longer, which uses more energy, in order to maintain the home’s temperature settings. This leads to high electric bills and the potential for a costly breakdown if the system’s been overworked.

In addition to saving you up to 10 percent on your home’s annual energy bills, proper insulation will make your home more comfortable. It works like a blanket for your house, keeping the warm air inside during cold winter months and keeping the hot air outside during hot summer months. If you can’t seem to keep your home warm enough in the winter or cool enough in the summer, it’s likely you have an insulation issue.

Visit ENERGYSTAR.gov/RuleYourAttic to take the first step to savings by learning how to measure your attic’s insulation so you can “Rule Your Attic!” You’ll also find a number of DIY videos on insulation and air sealing.

Or if you’re a SWEPCO Arkansas customer, see if you qualify for no-cost home energy assessments and energy efficiency improvements, including attic insulation, through our Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® Program.

For our non-Arkansas customers, consider contacting a SWEPCO-approved weatherization contractor in Louisiana or Texas to check the attic insulation in your home. If it’s determined you need more insulation, SWEPCO will help pay for all or part of your new insulation. Together we can “Rule Your Attic!”
