Bright lights and savings ahead for Hallsville ISD

We were happy to present Hallsville ISD with $2,177.50 in incentives for installing LEDs and for replacing an AC condenser. The school district qualified for the monetary incentives after completing a lighting retrofit project and replacing an air conditioning condenser.

For the lighting retrofit, a total of 52 metal-halide 400W gym lights were replaced with 52 150W light-emitting diodes (LEDs). LEDs have a much longer lifespan and very low maintenance costs compared to fluorescent lighting. The anticipated annual electric savings from the combined upgrades will be approximately 8.71 kW in demand and 44,389 kWh in energy.

These energy efficiency improvements align with Hallsville ISD’s pursuit of “Excellence in Education” in all endeavors.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to help the district save money and avoid costs”, said Ben Avedikian, Hallsville ISD’s director of maintenance. “In this case, it was the opportunity to change the way we use electricity.”

These upgrades are part of SWEPCO’s Schools Conserving Resources Market Transformation Program (SCORE MTP), which provides incentives for measures that reduce peak electric demand (kW) and annual energy consumption (kWh).

“We’re proud to work with Hallsville ISD to help the school district save money on its future energy bills,” said SWEPCO Senior Energy Efficiency & Consumer Program Coordinator Mike Nix. “And a special thanks goes to Ben Avedikian. This wouldn’t have been possible without his leadership and forward thinking.”

In addition to incentives, SCORE MTP offers services that include the benchmarking of current energy use, creation of an energy master plan, identification and evaluation of opportunities for energy efficiency measures, and communications support.

SWEPCO also has energy efficiency programs for residential customers.
