Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) plans to rebuild about 16 miles of existing 138,000-volts transmission line in the North Shreveport and Longwood areas.
The estimated $18 million North Shreveport-Longwood Transmission Line Rebuild Project will ensure continued reliability to area customers and will provide vital support for local economic development.
SWEPCO will host a come-and-go informational open house on Thursday, April 20 between 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the Blanchard Elementary School (402 N. Birch St.) cafeteria in Blanchard. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and visitors can arrive at any time during the open house to learn more about the improvements, review maps and talk with project representatives.
The project involves replacing existing wires and removing wooden poles with single steel poles. The transmission line begins at the company’s Arsenal Hill Substation located off of North Allen Avenue and continues northwest toward Blanchard. The line ends at the Longwood Substation near Blanchard-Latex Road.
Right-of-way agents will begin contacting landowners along the existing route to discuss the need for land surveying and securing any necessary property easements. Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2018 and be completed by early 2019.
