Five Ways to Save Energy This Summer

Do you want to stay cool and save energy? Here are five easy ways to reduce your electric bill during the hottest time of the year.

1. Keep direct sunlight out of your home as much as possible. Close curtains, shades and blinds.
2. Set the air conditioner thermostat at 78 degrees. Each degree below 78 adds about 3 percent to your cooling costs.

3. Install a clean air conditioning filter. Replace or clean it monthly. Dirty filters can cause equipment to work harder and use up to 5 percent more energy.
4. Insulation can pay for itself by lowering your cooling costs by as much as 20 percent.
5. Use portable and ceiling fans whenever possible to help circulate air and help reduce the amount of air conditioning required.
